Development of a machine learning technique for automatic analysis of seafloor image data: Case example, Pogonophora coverage at mud volcanoes

چکیده
Digital image processing provides powerful tools for fast and precise analysis of large image data sets in marine and geoscientific applications. Because of the increasing volume of georeferenced image and video data acquired by underwater platforms such as remotely operated vehicles, means of automatic analysis of the acquired image data are required. A new and fast-developing application is the combination of video imagery and mosaicking techniques for seafloor habitat mapping. In this article we introduce an approach to fully automatic detection and quantification of Pogonophora coverage in seafloor video mosaics from mud volcanoes. The automatic recognition is based on textural image features extracted from the raw image data and classification using machine learning techniques. Classification rates of up to 98.86% were achieved on the training data. The approach was extensively validated on a data set of more than 4000 seafloor video mosaics from the Håkon Mosby Mud Volcano. & 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

The combination of new underwater technology as remotely operating vehicles (ROVs), high-resolution video imagery, and software to compute georeferenced mosaics of the seafloor provides new opportunities for marine geological or biological studies and applications in offshore industry. Even during single surveys by ROVs or towed systems large amounts of images are compiled. While these underwat...

The quality of the road pavement has always been one of the major concerns for governments around the world. Cracks in the asphalt are one of the most common road tensions that generally threaten the safety of roads and highways. In recent years, automated inspection methods such as image and video processing have been considered due to the high cost and error of manual metho...
متن کاملSubsurface modeling of mud volcanoes, using density model and analysis of seismic velocity
Detection of subsurface structures by means of gravity method can be used to determine mass distribution and density contrast of rock units. This distribution could be detected by different geophysical methods, especially gravity method. However, gravity techniques have some drawbacks and can't be always successful in distinguishing subsurface structures. Performance of the gravity technique co...

Various approached have been introduced to extract as much as information form seismic image for any specific reservoir or geological study. Modeling of faults and fractures are among the most attracted objects for interpretation in geological study on seismic images that several strategies have been presented for this specific purpose. متن کاملDeep Pore Pressures and Seafloor Venting In
The pore pressures of the S, R, Q and P sands follow the hydrostatic gradient and are in pressure communication across the entire Auger basin, Gulf of Mexico. At the structural crests of these sands the pore pressures exceed the least principle stress; directly above the sand crests, are a series of mud volcanoes. Using 3-D seismic and pressure data we map the distribution of subsurface pressur...
